1. Define the video size
320×240 is a common caption for videos on the web. You can record your video in 320×240 if you are quite sure that you will not have to enlarge the video to a bigger capture such as 640×480.
2. Fix your camera
Try to not move your camera while shooting. Use a tripod if necessary.
If you shoot movements the object you are shooting should move, not the camera.
The closer the shot (close-up) the less you should move the camera.
Never move your camera while shooting with a zoom effect (tele).
Shoot against a simple plain background.
Shoot enough close-ups and avoid the zooming effects. Instead of zooming, move closer to the object you are shooting.
Make sure the subject appears mostly in the middle of the video and the content is fast-moving and exciting.
4. Open your video in a video editor
Use the online video editor www.youtube.com/editor or www.filelab.com/video-editor to edit your video. Alternatively you can use the pre-installed video editing software on your Windows or Mac machine – they are also very good:
5. Cut and arrange the clips
Cut your video down to single clips and arrange them into a linear sequence to tell a story.
Use hard cuts between the shots. Avoid the transition effects offered by video editing software. They will make your file size larger and they don’t work well on low quality videos.
6. Add audio
Video editors offer a special track for the audio. You can add some music or edit the voice you recorded together with the video. Be aware of copyright infringements if you use music in your video. The YouTube Video Editor offers audio tracks for free.
7. Capture it
If you shot your video in a bigger size, capture it now down to 320×240. If you want to use a bigger size you can capture it to 640×480.
8. Save and export
Save or export your video as a QuickTime MOV.
Use WMV if it’s not possible to export your video as a QuickTime. Mac users will not be able to watch your video if you publish it as a WMV.
9. Publish it on YouTube.com
The easiest way to publish your video online is to upload it to www.youtube.com. YouTube will automatically convert your video while uploading and make it accessible for almost everyone. You can also edit your video with the YouTube Video Editor.
10. Copy the URL
Click on the “Share” button under the video you uploaded on www.youtube.com and copy the URL.
